FAISAL GILL RELEASES STATEMENT AFTER
US GOV RECOGNIZES ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
LOS ANGELES, CA -- Yesterday, President Joe Biden made the long-overdue decision to recognize the 1915 massacre of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire as a genocide.
This comes after in 2000 the United States House of Representatives recognized the following:
“The Armenian Genocide was conceived and carried out by the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923, resulting in the deportation of nearly 2,000,000 Armenians of whom 1,500,000 men, women, and children were killed, 500,000 survivors were expelled from their homes, and which succeeded in the elimination of the over 2,500-year presence of Armenians in their historic homeland.”
Then in 2019 both The United States House of Representatives and US Senate passed another resolution which recognized the Armenian Genocide.
Today, my campaign reaffirms this message - that the Ottoman Empire carried out genocide against the Armenian peoples. It remains crucial that our elected officials and government at all levels continue to recognize this history and that we dedicate ourselves to fixing the generational impacts it caused.
As a candidate for LA City Attorney, I am committed to justice for all. There are no exceptions to that commitment, there is no room for conflicts of interest. As City Attorney I will carry that commitment with me and I will join the Armenian community in their continued fight for justice.
